Back in November, Portkey Games (the label behind all Wizarding World mobile games, including Hogwarts Mystery) announced a new mobile game called Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.
At the time, a brief teaser trailer gave us very little information about the game itself — only that there were traces of magic appearing in the Muggle world, and that wizards must enlist to help uphold the Statute of Secrecy.
Yesterday, the company finally released some details about and visuals from the game (but alas, still no release date).
Apparently, the app uses augmented reality to show characters from the Wizarding World in the world around you. As you explore the real world, an in-app map will reveal locations where traces of magic need to be dealt with. (Think Pokémon Go! with magic.)
You must track down the magical artifacts, creatures, people, and memories — called “Foundables” — and return them to their rightful place using spells.
As you play, you earn rewards for returning Foundables and can unlock Portmanteaus, which reveal Portkeys that take you to iconic Wizarding World locations, including a 360-AR immersive Ollivander’s Wand Shop!
There’s even more to uncover in the game, including Fortresses where you can test your skills in multi-play Wizarding challenges or learn magical skills from iconic Hogwarts professors.
The game will be available later this year, and pre-registration is available on Google Play. Visit the Wizards Unite website to see some game footage and for future game updates.
