Xbox fans have been spoilt’ this year. The release of the Xbox One X brought fans the “world’s most powerful console” with its large memory, eight-core custom central processing unit (CPU), enhanced artificial intelligence, faster load times, and six Teraflop graphics processing unit (GPU) for 4K environments. It’s currently one of the most immersive and well-designed consoles on the market and has revolutionized the gaming experience since its conception.
All the above information about the strength and power of the Xbox One X was basically shoved aside yesterday with the unveiling of the new Xbox Series X. This beast of a console looks like a personal computer’s CPU. The exterior is a classic black and stays on brand with a super clean design.
“Xbox Series X will be our fastest, most powerful console ever and set a new bar for performance, speed, and compatibility, allowing you to bring your gaming legacy, thousands of games from three generations, and more forward with you,” says Phil Spencer, head of Xbox. “With Xbox Series X, we will elevate the way games look, play and feel. We will also remove the technical barriers faced in previous generations and enable developers to create more expansive, immersive gaming worlds that invite more players to play.”
Xbox Series X will process world-class visuals at 4K with up to 120 frames per second (FPS) and will include a variable refresh rate (VRR) with 8K capabilities. (What?) Basically, this system will be able to process graphics faster than any console fans have seen before. It will change how fans interact with a game’s visual experience. The console also has a low latency feature, making it the most responsive console ever released.
As an added bonus to the hype, Spencer also says that Xbox is unveiling the second installment in its terrifying Hellblade series. The new game, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade Two, was used to capture the power of Xbox Series X in a Game Awards trailer. Senua’s Saga will be playable on the new console and looks about as scary as the original game. Along with the Hellblade release, the console will include noteworthy first-party titles, such as Halo Infinite, which will be released next year. I’m crazy excited to see what kind of change this new console will bring to how fans interact with games — we’re stepping into a gamer golden age — but not as excited as Twitter users are right now.
