Get ready to return to Atlantis because the Aquaman sequel is officially more than a rumor.
Variety reports that Warner Bros. hired David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick to write a script for Aquaman 2. Johnson-McGoldrick wrote the script for the first Aquaman film, working with Will Beall. Aquaman director James Wan is back on board to produce the sequel, alongside Peter Safran.
A sequel is a no-brainer, as the underwater epic racked up $328 million domestically and $784 million internationally, making it the 21st-highest worldwide grossing movie of all time.
Warner Bros. also announced last week that it is developing The Trench, an Aquaman spinoff horror movie. None of the original Aquaman cast will be involved in this spinoff, and there is no director attached. However, according to previous reports, at least Jason Momoa and Amber Herd plan to return for Aquaman 2.Â
