While sometimes it can get stale watching three-plus hours of celebrities in a room honoring the year’s achievements in film, this year ABC hopes to up the ante with an online trivia and prediction game.
While ABC has already made similar games and fan polls for fan-favorite shows, such as The Bachelor and Dancing with the Stars, this time, one lucky winner will win a $50,000 grand prize based on their Academy Awards predictions and correct guesses.
The network’s “The Official Oscar Game” interactive ballot will allow fans to earn points by predicting Oscar winners in each category, answering trivia questions correctly, and participating in fan polls in real time during the broadcast.
To play, users can sign up beginning Saturday, Feb. 23 at www.oscar.com/game, and then watch the ceremony live on Sunday to follow along and play.
The winner will be randomly selected from players who gain at least one point, with each point serving as one entry in the sweepstakes. The top point earners will appear on the game’s “Top 100 Leaderboard” during the ceremony.
While many Oscars viewers make their own ballots and predictions, this is the first time the network has launched a play-along game to accompany the broadcast. The online game will also feature behind-the-scenes content during the live telecast.
