The Unknown is full of, well, unknowns, but Dark Horse Comics and Mondo are about to let us in on a few of them.
Almost a decade after its original publication, Art of Over the Garden Wall is heading back to bookshelves with an updated look and a whopping 30 pages of new content. Among the new additions is an exclusive interview with Mondo’s Creative Director, Hector Arce, who gives fans a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the company’s Over the Garden Wall figures. While the book won’t hit shelves until next year, you can check out the whole interview now right here!
In the interview, Arce explores how the team approached translating the series’ whimsical illustrated characters into three-dimensional collectibles. “We set out to stay as faithful to the show’s designs as possible, while also packing each release with a ton of Easter eggs that longtime fans would notice and get a kick out of,” he says.
That attention to detail wasn’t without its challenges. For the Chapter 1 release, Arce recalls the team spent weeks tweaking the dog’s fur until they found the perfect mangy sculpt. Enoch’s towering size and bendable arms also proved complicated, forcing the team to get creative with molds and materials to maintain the scale of the Chapter 2 set.
Fans may even spot more familiar faces in the future. With the Chapter 3 figures now officially available to preorder, Arce hopes to eventually represent nearly every episode of the series with a figure set. “And of course, there are some major characters that just have to happen, like the Woodsman, Auntie Whispers, and, obviously, the Beast,” he teases.
And this interview is just the beginning. Art of Over the Garden Wall: Expanded Edition has all sorts of surprises in store, including artwork from the BOOM! Studios’ comic-book series, a backstage breakdown of Aardman’s stop-motion short for the series’ 10th anniversary, and even a brand-new foreword by Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch. From archival images and concept art to interviews with the cast and crew, this book is one to burgle.

You can grab the Art of Over the Garden Wall: Expanded Edition in its standard form or as a deluxe edition. While the content is the same, this version arrives in a premium black slipcase, dripping with shiny foil detailing, and features gilded page edges. It even includes a ribbon bookmark, so you’ll never get lost.
Both standard and deluxe versions of Art of Over the Garden Wall: Expanded Edition will be available starting Feb. 9, 2027. Fans can go ahead and preorder their copy now online wherever they like to shop for books — that’s a rock fact.
