Atari VCS

Atari fans have been eagerly awaiting the new Atari Video Computer System (Atari VCS). Now, the major upgrade to retro gaming is about to get even better (and possibly give PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo a run for their money).

The consumer brand and interactive entertainment producer announced that it has acquired an exclusive license for all assets of Wonder, the innovative gaming company behind WonderOS, an Android-based hybrid mobile gaming and entertainment platform.

Atari says it plans to incorporate WonderOS technology into the Atari VCS development, which will make the system available across mobile devices and further expand the capabilities and reach of the system. Hello, cross-platform gaming!

The OG Atari system dominated the world of gaming consoles in the early 1980s, and now Atari has turned its focus to mobile gaming and re-entering the home gaming console market with the Atari VCS. The addition of WonderOS and mobile IP will allow Atari to expand mobile gaming and content streaming for consumers.

Wonder was founded in 2016 by CEO Andy Kleinman, an entrepreneur and former executive of Disney and mobile game companies Scopely and Zynga. “As a life-long gamer and fan of the brand, I can’t imagine a better company than Atari to be moving forward with,” Kleinman says. “I am confident that Atari is the right partner to bring Wonder’s promising technology to market.”
