HBO Max has ordered three new series from Bad Robot Productions, J. J. Abrams and Katie McGrath’s film company.
The production commitment includes three one-hour dramas and will be the first TV projects for HBO Max under Bad Robot and WarnerMedia‘s content collaboration partnership.
Duster will be co-written by J.J. Abrams and LaToya Morgan, who is currently a writer on The Walking Dead and was a co-executive producer and writer of AMC’s Into the Badlands and TURN: Washington Spies. The series will be set in the 1970s Southwest and follows a gutsy getaway driver for a growing crime syndicate. You already know it’s going to go from bad to dangerous real fast.
Inspired by and featuring iconic characters Stephen King‘s The Shining, Overlook is a horror-thriller that explores the untold stories from the haunted hotel. Bad Robot, King, and Warner Bros. Television Group previously collaborated together on Castle Rock on Hulu.
With details under wraps, the third series will be based on DC characters in the Justice League Dark universe.
“Justice League Dark is a branch of the Justice League dedicated to dealing with mystical and supernatural threats. First appearing in the September 2011 issue of Justice League Dark #1, it has featured characters, mostly occult and offbeat, including John Constantine, mystic and fortune teller Madame Xanadu, Deadman, Shade, the Changing Man, and Zatanna,” according to Deadline.
All of the Bad Robot series for HBO Max will be executive produced by J.J. Abrams and its Head of Television Ben Stephenson. Rachel Rusch Rich, Bad Robot’s executive vice president of television will serve as a co-executive producer.
