Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Multiplayer

Activision and Infinity Ward hit the ground running to reveal the all-new multiplayer experience for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

During a global livestream via Twitch and YouTube, the Call of Duty team unveiled the action-packed, Metallica-soundtracked trailer for the mode, while top video game streamers got hands-on with the game for the very first time. If you can’t wait until Oct. 25 to get into the action, the Modern Warfare beta version will go live next month.

With a remix of “Enter Sandman” setting the tone, fans are getting their first look at some of the new play spaces that will redefine the Call of Duty experience. There’s quick-action, close-quarters, two vs. two gunfight play, traditional six vs. six multiplayer gameplay, and modes that support 10 vs. 10 and 20 vs. 20 firefights. Additionally, Modern Warfare offers high-player count maps and combat, including Ground War —  an epic large-scale mode supporting more than 100 players. There’s also a new gunsmithing mode with new ways to customize weapon load-outs, and new game mechanics offer the most realistic Call of Duty experience yet.

For the first time, Modern Warfare will be cross-platform, and the open beta will include a crossplay testing weekend. The beta will unfold as follows:

PlayStation 4 Exclusive Beta

  • Sept.  12-13 (early access, PlayStation 4)
  • Sept.  14-16 (open beta, PlayStation 4)

Beta Featuring Crossplay Testing

  • Sept. 19-20 (early access, PC and Xbox One; open beta, PlayStation 4)
  • Sept. 21-23 (open beta, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox One)

Beyond the game, the Call of Duty Endowment announced a new fundraising campaign to aid its goal to place 100,000 veterans into high-quality careers by 2024. Fans who donate to the Call of Duty Endowment here will receive a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare-inspired calling card at the game’s launch. Donations can also be made directly to the Call of Duty Endowment, and a full line of exclusive apparel is now available on Amazon, with proceeds benefiting the Endowment.
