D23 Disney on Broadway

The lights are bright on Broadway Hall D23 this August. A group of Broadway stars will be on the stage to sing out some of Disney on Broadway’s biggest hits during D23 Expo.

Hosted by Tony Award nominee Gavin Lee (SpongeBob SquarePants the Broadway Musical, Mary Poppins, Beauty and the Beast), Disney on Broadway in Concert: A 25th Anniversary Celebration will feature five Broadway performers singing classic musical theatre and Disney hits.

Performers joining Lee on stage for the 75-minute concert include Heidi Blickenstaff (Freaky Friday, Something Rotten!, The Little Mermaid), Ashley Brown (Mary Poppins, Beauty and the Beast, On the Record), Kissy Simmons (The Lion King), Josh Strickland (Tarzan), and Alton Fitzgerald White (The Lion King), accompanied by a six-piece band led by Jim Abbott.

The singers will go through Disney’s extensive Broadway catalog, including songs from Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aida, Tarzan, Mary Poppins, The Little Mermaid, Newsies, Aladdin, Freaky Friday, and Frozen. (I mean, I’d personally be happy with a complete Newsies concert, but adding in the iconic songs from so many shows, too? I’m completely sold.)

In addition to the anniversary concert on the main stage on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 3:30 p.m., fans can become the greatest star of all with a new Disney on Broadway virtual reality experience on the expo show floor. The new VR theatre allows fans to be center stage during the biggest showstoppers, featuring Broadway stars Caissie Levy (Frozen), Major Attaway (Aladdin), Telly Leung (Aladdin), and Tshidi Manye (The Lion King).

Break a leg, it’s now your turn to shine.
