Stadia Remote

Yesterday, Google announced a new gaming platform called Stadia. To clarify, this isn’t exactly a site, a console, or honestly like anything we’ve ever seen.

The company released this video for the launch and, while it looks nice, it doesn’t explain much.

So here’s the general idea: Players will be able to access their favorite games from any screen — tablet, phone, TV, or computer — at any time. The system will also be intertwined with Google’s massive data infrastructure and other Google services, including YouTube. For example, you’ll be able to click a “play now” button when watching a gaming video.

While there isn’t a new console for Stadia, there is a new remote control. The Stadia remote will work across platforms and connects to Google’s data center via Wi-Fi. The remote also features a Google Assistant button, a microphone, and a button that will initiate instant capture for recording games.

So far, the games confirmed as part of the platform include Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Doom Eternal, and something from Q-Games.

The platform is set to launch later this year in at least the U.S., Canada, and the UK.
