A new Disney Princess is about to be part of our world, and her name is Halle Bailey. The 19-year-old actress (best known as part of the sister singing duo Chloe x Halle) will officially play Ariel in Disney‘s upcoming live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid.
Production for the movie is expected to start next year, with Rob Marshall directing and Marshall, John DeLuca, Marc Platt, and Lin-Manuel Miranda as producers. The movie will retain the original songs by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, as well as new songs by Menken (music) and Miranda (lyrics).
No other casting has been confirmed, but reports have linked Melissa McCarthy, Awkwafina, and Jacob Tremblay to the project.
