Hobbs & Shaw

This weekend, the Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw bursts into theaters, but in select locations — 25 screens in the U.S. and Canada — the action will hit screens in 4DX.

4DX is truly an experience — immersing the audience with enhancements that hit on all of the senses with special effects, including wind, rain, motion, scents, and more. For Hobbs & Shaw, 4DX theaters in the U.S. have been upgraded with a new “Extreme Speed” effect that is not available in international markets. The first spin-off from the Fast & Furious universe is an action thriller that finds Luke Hobbs (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) teaming up to take down the cybernetically enhanced Brixton (Idris Elba) — a villain who takes his licks and keeps on ticking. With Shaw’s sister Hattie (Vanessa Kirby) joining the fight, the explosive action kicks in for a globe-trotting adventure.

Working alongside Universal Pictures, 4DX developed the Hobbs & Shaw 4DX experience to include a vertigo effect as Hobbs and Shaw scale down a skyscraper, with motion, vibration, wind, and the back tickler working together to provide audiences with the stomach-turning sensation of speeding down the face of the building. Hand-to-hand combat is enhanced with motion, vibration, a back impact “stimulator,” and leg ticker, while vehicle sequences add air gusts into the mix as the motion allows audience members to feel the swerves and impact.

Additionally, the 4DX slow-motion effect will allow the seats to roll, pitch, heave, and vibrate as time slows down, while explosions will be complemented by warm air and fog for the sensation of lingering heat and smoke. Samoan breezes will provide a cooling sensation of tropical wind while bullets, rainstorms, and even Brixton’s cybernetic enhancements will be felt throughout.

For those who haven’t yet experienced a film in 4DX, check out the 360 VR that they’ve put together as a preview of Hobbs & Shaw.

Most 4DX presentations only run for a week, so be sure to catch Hobbs & Shaw while you can. For a full list of participating theaters, click here.
