A Batman prequel Pennyworth is in the works, and the title role of Alfred has been cast with actor Jack Bannon (best known for his role as Christopher Morcom in 2014’s The Imitation Game, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley).

Pennyworth will be a 10-episode scripted drama on Epix about Bruce Wayne’s butler, Alfred Pennyworth. It will tell the story of the twenty-something former British SAS soldier as he forms a security company and a working relationship with young billionaire Thomas Wayne (before Bruce Wayne is born) in 1960s London.

The show is based on the DC characters created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. Gotham showrunner Bruno Heller will write the script and executive produce. Gotham’s Danny Cannon will executive produce and direct the pilot. Production begins Oct. 22 in the UK.
