Markella Kavenagh

It feels like it’s been roughly 23 eons since Amazon Studios first announced its The Lord of the Rings TV series. Today, though, there’s some light of Eärendil at the end of the tunnel: Australian actress Markella Kavenagh was reportedly cast as a series regular.

JD Payne and Patrick McKay are writing the series, which is set in Middle-earth, with Juan Antonio (J.A.) Bayona directing. The new series will serve as a prequel to J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring.

Amazon Studios will produce a multi-season series in partnership with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins, and New Line Cinema. Aside from those few deets, the studio remains pretty tight-lipped about the production.

Stay tuned!
