Take a look at a the list of Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, and you’ll quickly see that every single lead is male. Marvel Studios Chief Kevin Feige says that change is on the horizon.
“With [Ant-Man and The Wasp] and now with Captain Marvel and many movies to be announced in the near future, I’m anxious for the time where it’s not a novelty that there is a female-led superhero movie, but it is a norm,” Feige told Entertainment Weekly. “And it is less a story of, ‘Oh, look, a female hero,’ and it’s more a story of, ‘Oh, what’s this about? Who’s this character? I’m excited to see that.’ And I think we can get there.”
Captain Marvel is set to release in March 2019, starring Brie Larson as hotheaded superhero Carol Danvers. There’s also a Black Widow film in the works, starring Scarlett Johansson.
