It feels like there’s news about a new streaming service every week: Disney+, AppleTV+, the list goes on. Now, NBCUniversal has thrown its hat into the ring, revealing details about its own upcoming streaming service.
The service will officially be called Peacock, and it is set to launch in April. In a press release this morning, NBCUniversal provided details about what viewers can expect to see on Peacock.
Last month, news broke that fan-favorite The Office will leave Netflix for NBC’s streaming service. According to NBC, Parks and Recreation will also make the switch.
Other NBC series heading to Peacock include 30 Rock, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Downton Abbey, Everybody Loves Raymond, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Saturday Night Live, and Will & Grace. However, these don’t seem to have the same exclusivity as The Office and Parks and Rec.
In addition to hosting a library of NBC shows and Universal Pictures films, Peacock has plans for a variety of original content. Perhaps the most interesting is a Saved By the Bell reboot featuring original cast members, including Elizabeth Berkley and Mario Lopez. Other familiar shows are coming back, too, with a Punky Brewster reboot, a second Psych movie, and a Battlestar Galactica reboot in the works.
Additional original content includes Dr. Death, starring Alec Baldwin, Jamie Dornan, and Christian Slater; Brave New World, starring Demi Moore; Rutherford Falls, a comedy series from Mick Schur, Ed Helms, and Sierra Teller Ornelas; and Straight Talk, a series from Rashida Jones and Jada Pinkett Smith. There are also unscripted projects on the way, including a Saturday Night Live docuseries, an original talk show series from Jimmy Fallon, and a weekly late-night show starring Amber Ruffin.
