New York Comic Con (NYCC) is happening now, live and in person! And, while many folks can be there to experience the excitement in the flesh, The Pop Insider team is in the house — literally in booth No. 1137 — with all kinds of pop culture merch goodness, including the 2022 edition of our legendary Holiday Gift Guide.

For those playing along at home, we’re hosting a running roundup of all the must-see trailers and teasers that are debuting live at the event, and we’ve kicked things off with a look at some early previews that have hit the scene in the hours leading up to the grand opening at the Javits Center in New York City. Be sure to bookmark this post — we’ll be updating it with new trailers and teasers all weekend long so that YOU can #fuelyourfandom at home!

THE TRAILERS: MOVIES

THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE

It’s-a-movie! Nintendo premiered the trailer for the much-anticipated animated film in front of a packed house at NYCC. What do YOU think of Chris Pratt Pratt Pratt (3X the Pratt) as Mario with Jack Black as Bowser? The film from Universal and Illumination hits theaters on April 7, 2023.


VIOLENT NIGHT

Stranger Things‘ David Harbour as Santa Claus fighting terrorists? YES! Universal Pictures dropped the first trailer for Violent Night on the eve of NYCC. The studio will hold an exclusive screening event on Friday night in which NYCC attendees will be the first audience in the world to see what is no doubt destined to become a perennial holiday classic! The film from the producers of Nobody, John Wick, and Deadpool 2 debuts Friday, Oct. 7 at 7:15 p.m. ET on the Empire Stage inside the Javits Center.


BIG CITY GREENS: THE MOVIE

There is no date available for when audiences will get to see Big City Greens: The Movie, but Disney debuted a pretty epic trailer for the BIGGEST animated adventures of the Green family.


V/H/S/99

V/H/S/99 is the latest installment in the horror anthology series. In the film. a thirsty teenager’s home video leads to a series of horrifying revelations. The film features five new stories from filmmakers Maggie Levin (Into The Dark: My Valentine), Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down, Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City), Flying Lotus (Kuso), Tyler MacIntyre (Tragedy Girls) and Joseph & Vanessa Winter (Deadstream). It premieres on Shudder Oct. 20.

ONE PIECE FILM RED

Yes, technically this trailer has been out for a few weeks, but Crunchyroll kicked of NYCC with word that tickets are now on sale for the highly-anticipated One Piece Film Red, opening in theaters in the U.S. and Canada on Nov. 4. On Saturday, a panel at NYCC will feature English dub cast members Colleen Clinkenbeard (Luffy), Christopher R. Sabat (Zoro), Luci Christian (Nami), Sonny Strait (Usopp) and Ian Sinclair (Brook). Additionally, Japanese filmmakers Goro Taniguchi (Director), Shinji Shimizu (Executive Producer), and Hiroaki Shibata (Producer) will participate with Anthony Bowling (ADR Director) and Kyle Cardine (Crunchyroll) hosting.


THE TRAILERS: SERIES

BLOCKBUSTER

After learning he is managing the last Blockbuster Video in America, Timmy and his employees fight to stay afloat. Blockbuster Season 1, starring Randall Park and Melissa Fumero, premieres Nov. 3, only on Netflix (irony here?).


WOLF PACK

Wolf Pack follows a group of teenagers whose lives are forever changed when a California wildfire awakens a terrifying supernatural creature. Wolf Pack stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, Rodrigo Santoro, Armani Jackson, Bella Shepard, Chloe Rose Robertson, and Tyler Lawrence Gray. The series begins streaming on Paramount+ beginning Jan. 26!


MONSTER HIGH

Following the debut of the live-action Monster High musical on Paramount+ this week, the ghouls are heading to Nickelodeon in an all-new animated series. At Monster High, every monster is welcome to live their beast life! Find your boo crew, find yourself, and hang at the ghoulest school around when the series debuts on Friday, October 28 at 7 p.m. ET on Nickelodeon.


TITANS

DC’s Titans is back on HBO Max beginning Nov. 3. While this teaser doesn’t give us much, it promises some dark times ahead with new heroes and villains set to make their series debut.

WEDNESDAY

This Addams Family reboot from director Tim Burton (Batman) stars Jenna Ortega in the title role, alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzman, Gwendoline Christie, Christina Ricci, and more. It debuts on Netflix Nov. 23.


DOOM PATROL

The fourth season of DC’s Doom Patrol is coming, and things are about to get weird. Check this out for a big musical number inspired by Guys and Dolls. The series returns to HBO Max on Dec. 5.


VELMA

The hilarious first teaser for the adult-themed Scooby-Doo! spinoff is both an homage to Scream and a clap-back at internet idiots. Velma tells the origin story of Velma Dinkley, the unsung and underappreciated brains of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang. This original and humorous spin unmasks the complex and colorful past of one of America’s most beloved mystery solvers. It will stream on HBO Max next year.


STAR TREK: PICARD

This teaser dropped during the Star Trek Universe panel at NYCC. In the third season of Picard, Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, LeVar Burton, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, and Michael Dorn of Star Trek: The Next Generation all return for one final high-stakes mission. Season three debuts on Feb. 16, 2023, on Paramount+


STAR TREK: PRODIGY

With Vice Admiral Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) hot on their heels, Dal (Brett Gray), Gwyn (Ella Purnell), and the rest of the Protostar crew search for Starfleet in the midseason return teaser for Star Trek: Prodigy. The series returns to Paramount+ on Oct. 27.


HIS DARK MATERIALS – Season 3

Lin-Manuel Miranda is back for the third and final season of His Dark Materials on HBO and HBO Max. Based on The Amber Spyglass, the final novel in Philip Pullman’s award-winning trilogy, in the final chapter of this epic fantasy series, Lyra (Dafne Keen), the prophesied child, and Will (Amir Wilson), the bearer of The Subtle Knife, must journey to a dark place from which no one has ever returned. As her father’s great war against the Authority edges closer, they will learn that saving the world comes at a terrible price. The final season debuts on Dec. 5.

ANNE RICE’S MAYFAIR WITCHES

Based on Anne Rice’s Lives of the Mayfair Witches, Mayfair Witches is an exploration of female power and the mortal implications of our decisions. Mayfair Witches focuses on an intuitive young neurosurgeon (Alexandra Daddario) who discovers that she is the unlikely heir to a family of witches. As she grapples with her newfound powers, she must contend with a sinister presence that has haunted her family for generations. Coming to AMC+ in January.


LIMITLESS WITH CHRIS HEMSWORTH

Disney+ says: “Keeping himself in peak physical condition and best known for portraying an immortal superhero, Chris has always taken care of his health and fitness. But, now in his late 30s, he wants to find out how to harness the potential of his mind and body to stay sharper, stronger, and healthier for longer — not only for himself and his children but for his children’s children too. Each challenge pushes Chris further than he has ever gone before. Through the series, viewers will learn techniques they can use to improve their health and enhance their own lives.” The series from National Geographic comes to Disney+ beginning Nov. 16.


LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER

Amazon Prime dropped into NYCC with an epic trailer for the season finale of its Lord of the Rings series. Catch the episode on Amazon Prime Video beginning Oct. 14.


REVENGER

Crunchyroll says: “As master assassin, Usui Yuen looks into a series of assassinations made on the grand samurai clan, the Satsuma, he encounters Kurima Raizo, member and survivor of one of the attacks. Together, they discover the true nature of these murders is bigger than over stolen resources. As they get closer to the truth, will they come out alive to exact revenge?” No date has been given, but Crunchyroll says Revenger is coming soon.


The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World

Crunchyroll says: “The Iceblade Sorcerer is hailed as the most powerful sorcerer in the world. The one who inherited this title, Ray White, struggles to deal with his own immense power. After fighting in the Far East War, his last accomplishment, he vanished from the battlefield along with a deeply scarred psyche. Three years have passed since then, and Ray has enrolled at the Arnold Academy of Magic, a school attended by elite sorcerers from around the world. BY THE GRACE OF THE GODS 2

Crunchyroll says: “Only 39 years into a life full of bad luck, Ryoma Takebayashi passes away in his sleep! Taking pity on him, three divine beings show compassion by reincarnating him as a young boy to a magical, new world. Now he spends his time researching and caring for slimes. But after healing an injured traveler, Ryoma decides to set out with his new friends on a journey to use his power to help others.” The series will debut in January.


THE TRAILERS: VIDEO GAMES

GOTHAM KNIGHTS

What better place to debut the gameplay trailer for Gotham Knights than at a Comic Con? With Batman out of the picture, it’s Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Robin’s turn to be the protectors that Gotham needs. Play the game beginning Oct. 21.
