ICYMI, Pokémon is celebrating a quarter-century this year, and music is a big part of that celebration.
The Pokémon Co. International partnered with Universal Music Group for the brand’s milestone anniversary, producing new music and music-based events in collaboration with popular artists. The P25 Music Program launched with Katy Perry as its headliner, then hosted a virtual Post Malone concert over this past weekend for Pokémon Day. During the concert, Malone performed a surprise cover of a popular Hootie and the Blowfish song, “Only Wanna Be with You — Pokémon 25 Version,” which is available now on Spotify.
At that concert, fans got more details about plans for the rest of the yearlong program, including the reveal of J Balvin as another artist who will partner with Pokémon.
According to The Pokémon Co., Perry, Balvin, and one more surprise artist will release songs inspired by Pokémon, each supported by a music video and a merch collection.
The P25 Music Program will officially culminate this fall with P25: The Album, a compilation that will feature 14 songs by 11 different Universal Music Group artists. Fans can pre-save the album now on Spotify by clicking this link, so it will be part of your music library as soon as it launches.
