Our favorite CW heroes need some assistance from Batwoman during this year’s DC crossover event, and it seems like the bat is officially unleashed as the network announces model-actress Ruby Rose will join the DC squad.

The Orange is the New Black fan-favorite has been tapped to play Kate Kane for the crossover between Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl, and will likely also star in her own standalone series.

Rose shared her excitement over the role on Instagram, writing, “The Bat is out of the bag and I am beyond thrilled and honored. I’m also an emotional wreck.. because this is a childhood dream. This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on tv and felt alone and different.”

The CW previously revealed that we would meet Batwoman to fight side-by-side in the Arrowverse prior to the development of a new series starring Kate Kane.

Batwoman will be the first openly lesbian character to lead a TV show, with Rose, who identifies as a lesbian, taking on the role.

“Rose will be playing the Kate Kane version of the character, who, armed with a passion for social justice and flair for speaking her mind, soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence,” a press release from DC Comics reads.

Watch Rose take on the Batwoman title as she fights alongside our favorite DC heroes this December during the crossover event. The Batwoman series is currently in development by the network, Berlanti Productions, and The Vampire Diaries’ Caroline Dries and is in consideration for the 2019-2020 television series.
