Kids who grew up watching Scooby-Doo meddle in the plots of thousands of villains are grown up now — but that won’t stop us from pushing past current kids to see the latest rendition of the lovable, crime-solving pup.
The latest trailer for Scoob! solves the mystery of how to reimagine the classic hijinks of Scooby-Doo in a way everyone can find entertaining.
Out in May, the film is the first full-length animated adventure for Mystery Inc. In the trailer (watch below), viewers learn that the meddling kids found each other when they were just tots. The jokes are genuinely hilarious and meta, especially when a character mentions there wouldn’t have been any problems if the team just stuck together.
When the gang (shockingly) splits up, Scooby and Shaggy are sucked into a UFO, where they meet Cerberus — a ghost dog who wants to take over the world. The gang of friends works together to stop the “dogpocalypse” from occurring — zoinks!
The times — and voices — may have changed, but you can listen for familiar actors, such as Zac Efron as Fred, Amanda Seyfried as Daphne, Gina Rodriguez as Velma, Will Forte as Shaggy, Frank Welker as Scooby, and Simon Cowell as … himself.
Grab your Mystery Machine and head to theaters on May 15.
