The first official trailer for the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog is here and we finally get to see the speedy, blue furball in action. We learn from the trailer that the premise of the movie is that Sonic runs so fast, he knocks out the power for the entire Pacific Northwest, causing the government to send in “the Doctor” (Jim Carrey) to investigate this mysterious energy surge.
Carrey is looking wacky AF with his signature dramatics and a handlebar mustache that seems to expand throughout the movie. We also get to hear Sonic speak for the first time (voiced by Ben Schwartz), see James Marsden as a cop, and tons of explosions. And let’s not ignore the fact that the cute, little Sonic we all remember from the ’90s SEGA video game is pretty creepy with his super thick thighs and mouth full of human teeth.
