Apple picked up two seasons of a dramatic series that will detail the daily ritual of morning shows and the behind-the-scenes challenges. It was announced last year that Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon were both executive producing and starring in the untitled project. Steve Carell joins the cast as Mitch Kessler, a morning show anchor struggling to stay relevant.
This will be Carell’s first series regular role since he left The Office in 2011, after seven seasons and six Emmy nominations. This will also be the first regular TV role for Aniston since she said goodbye to Friends in 2004, while Witherspoon is fresh off of Big Little Lies, which she starred in and produced.
The Apple show is written by Kerry Ehrin (Bates Motel) and directed by Mimi Leder (The Leftovers) and production will begin next week.
