Last night it seemed like the only HBO programming anybody cared about was Game of Thrones, but in the midst of the Westeros madness for the throne, the ladies of Monterey returned in the official teaser for season two — and even more drama. The first look at the new season of Big Little Lies gave fans a first look at the aftermath of a certain ending, along with the official release date for the show’s return.
Slated for its second-season return on HBO beginning on June 9, the first-look teaser promises plenty of drama, mystery, and the queen herself Meryl Streep, who is looking for some answers surrounding her son Perry’s mysterious death during last year’s finale.
The trailer shows the moms embracing their kids, discussing being the now-infamous “Monterey Five,” and getting weird looks around town, plus Bonnie (Zoe Kravitz) dealing with the fallout of her actions at the Elvis-Audrey school fundraiser, and Mary Louise Wright’s (Streep) arrival into town. Other moments tease plenty of steamy romance, strong emotions, and Madeline’s husband Ed (Adam Scott) preparing for a fight — what?!?
When the seven-episode season kicks off this summer, it will “continue to explore the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting,” according to the network’s official press release.
