batwoman

The CW is adding a host of new series to its fall TV roster. While we already knew that of many of our current faves would return for new seasons and brand-new adventures, the network revealed yesterday that a few of its previously ordered pilots would officially become series.

Pilots for Batwoman, Katy Keene, and Nancy Drew got the green light from the network for what I’m sure will be full, hit seasons.

Batwoman

Surprising no one, the Arrowverse keeps expanding; the network officially ordered the Ruby Rose-led Batwoman series, following her exploits in the Elseworlds. As previously announced, the series, produced by Greg Berlanti and TVD alum Caroline Dries, will follow Kate Kane (Rose) as “she soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, a lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence,” according to the official logline.

Katy Keene

Also unsurprising, Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will helm another Archie Comics spin-off as Katy Keene makes its TV debut. Based on the Archie Comics characters, Lucy Hale portrays aspiring fashion designer Katy Keene as she lives it up in NYC, alongside a trio of new besties. One new pal includes an older version of Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), following her Riverdale exit last week to pursue her musical career.

Aguirre-Sacasa posted his own congratulations to the upcoming series with behind-the-scenes images of the friends making it on set. He captioned the Instagram snap, “One door closes, another opens! So thrilled that Katy Keene is coming to the @thecw with this beautiful cast! NYC, here we come!!!”

Not only am I looking forward to the show plot-wise, but the cast is serving some serious fashionista looks. I, for one, am quite obsessed already.

Nancy Drew

From the minds of the creators of The O.C., Gossip Girl, Marvel’s Runaways, and CW’s Dynasty reboot, Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz’s Nancy Drew will also join the trio of new shows. Nancy Drew follows 18-year-old high school graduate Nancy Drew (Kennedy McMann) who “thought she’d be leaving her hometown for college, but when a family tragedy holds her back another year, she finds herself embroiled in a ghostly murder investigation — and along the way, uncovers secrets that run deeper than she ever imagined.” Former teen icon Freddie Prinze Jr. takes on the role of Drew’s father as the new series brings the beloved childhood book series to life.

What’s Missing?!

Notably absent from the network’s ranks of picked-up pilots include the Jane the Virgin spin-off, Jane the Novelas. So season five will be the actual, emotional conclusion of the series after all. While the network has decided on most new series already, both The Lost Boys revival and the Brooke Shields-led Glamorous pilot are still in contention to be picked up, after most of the former is reshot.

The CW previously picked up 10 of its current series for renewal back in January, with a second announcement last month that freshman series All American, In the Dark, Roswell, New Mexico, and The 100 would also return in the fall.
