The Avengers will slowly assemble on Disney’s upcoming streaming service—starting with some former villains.
Disney is developing numerous limited series based on characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, featuring the same actors who portrayed those heroes and villains on the big screen. The shows in development will be based on Loki, Scarlet Witch, with more in the works, so we’ll see Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen play their MCU roles. Each series will include six to eight episodes.
Unlike Marvel shows on Netflix, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige will have a hands-on role in developing this new content. The shows are expected to come with massive budgets, similar to what fans see in movie theaters, speaking to Disney’s dedication to make a mark on all of the already established and new streaming services.
While Disney has yet to comment on the new shows, the entertainment giant already announced other projects for its upcoming streaming service. Plans include a Star Wars series from Jon Favreau, a show based on High School Musical, and a live-action Lady and the Tramp.Â
Disney’s streaming service is expected to launch late next year, according to Entertainment Weekly.
