Mondo did not disappoint fans at New York Comic Con (NYCC) this year. Not only was the company’s booth filled with epic collectibles for fans to shop, but the Mondo team also hosted Mondo Toy Talk on Friday, Oct. 10.

During the panel, fans got new looks at upcoming projects, including the Mondoverse 1:6-scale Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figures. The Mondoverse ups the company’s storytelling game, featuring original TMNT content to bring life to the figures. For example, Mondoverse Donatello is really into tech, creating his own mechanical creatures, while Leonardo goes full ninja warrior.

“We had an idea for the turtles in the Mondoverse, which is what we’ve been calling our takes on franchises like Master of the Universe where we do our own special, recognizable landmarks and silhouettes of these characters that you’ve known and loved and just amplify them with some of our own creativity,” says Peter Santa-Maria, senior creative director at Mondo. “In our heads, it’s as if Mondo was hired in the ’90s to continue the films after the second one. We would’ve kept that real-world grit, that ’90s technology and fashion, and all that kind of stuff.”

Fans also got a first look at the upcoming Over the Garden Wall Chapter 2 Enoch figure, which comes out later this month and comes with several Pumpkin People from Pottsfield to display alongside it.

“It is an awesome set and it’s really a dream come true,” says Hector Arce, senior director of creative and product development at Mondo. “It’s like a perfect thing for Halloween.”

Other figures fans got a look at include Jean Grey from X-Men: The Animated Series, Lizard from Spider-Man: The Animated Series, Merman and Teela from Masters of the Universe, Streex from Street Sharks, Ultraman and Jirass from Ultraman, a King Ghidorah UFO figure, an Urban Aztec Mothra, and Janine and Samhain “Halloween” Edition from The Real Ghostbusters.

Mondo’s music fans got a first look at upcoming vinyl variants, including a new pressing of the Over the Garden Wall soundtrack, the soundtrack from Halloween 6, and a surprise drop of the soundtrack from Common Side Effects, which sold out during the show. Fans also got announcements for upcoming licensed collaborations, including The Lord of the Rings, Wicked: For Good, BraveStarr, and Swat Kats.

In an interview with The Pop Insider, Santa-Maria says that the fan response to reveals and exclusives at the show was overwhelmingly positive for the team.

“That is part of the loop for us,” Santa-Maria says. “We design. We plan. We create. We show it off, but the loop doesn’t really fully complete until we get the reactions from collectors and fans. That’s when we know we did our job.”
