Fans who were in the room where it happened last week at New York Comic Con (NYCC) got to see the current cast of Hamilton on Broadway discussing the legacy of the hit musical following its 10th anniversary this year.
The panel included several members of the current Broadway cast, including Trey Curtis (Alexander Hamilton), Jisel Soleil Ayon (Angelica Schuyler), Tamar Greene (George Washington), Cherry Torres (Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds), and Morgan Anita Wood (Eliza Hamilton), along with Patrick Vassel, associate and supervising director for Hamilton.
Most of the show’s current Broadway cast has been involved in Hamilton for years. Torres, who is currently playing Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds, has played all three of the Schuyler sisters.
“It’s been such a whirlwind full circle situation for me,” Torres says. “I remember the very first time I finished learning the show, it was just such a beautiful piece that in the very end, I got emotional. I was like, ‘This is such a special moment for me to actually be expanding on the stage.’ It’s been a really special journey. It’s been seven years. I’ve gotten to see it from the perspective of Eliza, from the perspective of Angelica, and now from the perspective of Peggy. So it’s been really cool to get to play and live in this world.”

For the show’s official 10th anniversary celebrations in August, the cast put on a show for the fans with a $10 admission fee in the afternoon, and a special show that evening featuring guests from previous Hamilton casts.
There were three George Washingtons in there,” says Tamar Greene, the show’s current George Washington. “It was like, ‘All right, cool. A hundred people who’ve done this thing. Okay. No, that’s cool. It’s cool. We’re good. What? No, I know these words. I know they know these words.’ The mental gymnastics of that show were insane. I remember when I started, and I came out on stage, I had this internal monologue beforehand. Then, when I was doing the thing, I felt the shift internally, and I felt the shift from the audience as well … And they’re with us along the line, along the journey. I feel like I can talk about that night show all day because it was just such an out-of-body experience. I felt like we were doing the show together. I mean, that was very, very different energy. It was really such a beautiful, exhausting day.”
Curtis, the show’s current Alexander Hamilton, and Wood, the show’s current Eliza, performed alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda during the show’s limited run in Puerto Rico in 2019 following Hurricane Maria. Wood said that performing during such a big moment in the show’s history helped prepare her for being the show’s Eliza during Hamilton’s 10th anniversary.
“He was doing Mary Poppins Press at the time,” Wood says. “We didn’t even have him in rehearsals until some of our last few dress rehearsals in Puerto Rico. To perform it at that capacity, I think it set us up for success, because with this crazy, amazing year, being the 10th anniversary of the show, there have been a lot of high-profile events, people, and things that would otherwise create a lot of pressure. For that to have been our catapult, there can’t be much more pressure than that. I think we’re doing okay.”
