IMAX heads, it’s our time to visit a galaxy far, far away. For the franchise’s 50th anniversary, the OG Star Wars and Star Wars: Starfighter will both be presented in IMAX 70mm film next year.
This is the first time Star Wars fans will be able to experience the original movie in IMAX digital or film. The movie returns to theaters on Feb. 19 next year with a newly restored version of the 1977 original cut of the movie.
Star Wars: Starfighter hits theaters on May 28, just in time for the 50th anniversary weekend. The movie was shot with IMAX-certified cameras and will be converted to IMAX 70mm film prints for select IMAX locations. The movie follows a cynical rogue (played by THE Ryan Gosling) as he is confronted by his mysterious past amid an adventure across the galaxy.
IMAX 70mm is becoming increasingly popular, with more than $78 million in global box office, with only 41 screens in the world supporting the format. Whether you’re seeing the OG Star Wars or Starfighter in IMAX 70mm, 2027 is going to be an epic year for seeing Star Wars in theaters.
