No one can take Netflix’s crown as it aims to produce even more original films and series. As the streaming service is producing Oscar contenders and other comparable films, the platform’s chief of original movies, Scott Stuber, revealed in an interview that a new “cinematic onslaught” is coming.

In Sunday’s New York Times, the newspaper profiled Stuber, who described what’s coming for the streaming service. The platform is reportedly set to release 90 new films a year.

Netflix’s movie department has two sections: originals and indies. Original flicks are intended to make 20 films per year, with budgets set between $20 million and $200 million. Indie films are currently set up to make 35 movies a year, with budgets well under $20 million. Films from other divisions, including documentaries and animation, help bring the total number of films produced to 90 per year, according to the Times.

In comparison, Universal Pictures—one of the largest Hollywood film studios—produces about 30 films a year.

After the platform racked up a total of 112 Emmy nominations earlier this year, Netflix is setting its sights on Oscar nominations, with a push for Alfonso Cuaron’s Roma in particular. To deliver acclaimed content, the streaming giant is relying on an impressive roster of well-known directors and star actors to deliver content, including Martin Scorsese, Steven Soderbergh, Guillermo del Toro, Michael Bay, Meryl Streep, Ben Affleck, Eddie Murphy, Sandra Bullock, Dwayne Johnson, among others.

“If you’re going to build a great film studio, you have to build it with great filmmakers,” Stuber told the newspaper. “We’re trying to build a new studio that is exciting for artists.”

Earlier this year, Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said the company intended to release 1,000 original film and television projects on its platform by the end of the year. In October, Netflix reported approximately 7 million new subscribers in its third quarter, surpassing expectations.
