Glorius Ancientz

Howard “Quiggly” Chang is bringing his latest creations to a much bigger toy shelf.

Ancientz Minis Chapter 1 V.2 launches for preorder on Walmart.com beginning Oct. 8, timed to New York Comic Con (NYCC). The first retail drop includes seven characters: David, Gideon, Joshua, Noah, Deborah, Rahab, and Goliath.

If Chang’s name sounds familiar to longtime toy collectors, there’s a reason. He got his start at Varner Studios and went on to help design hundreds of figures for the classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toy line, contributing to the wild, weird visual style that helped define the brand in the ’80s and ’90s.

Ancientz takes that imagination in a very different direction. The original sci-fi property recasts figures from biblical stories as futuristic robotic beings awakened in a world on the verge of collapse. The designs land somewhere between action figures and art toys, with detailed sculpting, slick paint applications, and light-up features.

The Walmart launch marks the first consumer retail release for the Ancientz Minis Chapter 1 V.2 collection. David, Gideon, Joshua, and Noah are scheduled to ship Nov. 1, while Deborah, Rahab, and Goliath will follow on Nov. 30.

Collectors can also find larger 10- to 15-inch Ancientz Legend Series figures through Walmart.com and the official Ancientz store.

For those not at NYCC, tune into a special Walmart Marketplace livestream tomorrow, Oct. 9, at 3 p.m. ET to learn more about Ancientz.
